President`s Greetings

The Judicial Policy Research Institute, as an independent research organization under the Supreme Court of Korea, sets out the desirable direction for the judiciary and conducts mid-to-long term research on judicial policies in a future-oriented perspectives.

We propose policy directions for current judicial issues by carrying out interdisciplinary research through systemic connection of the jurisprudence and related fields of studies, and by conducting comparative study on foreign judicial systems. And in preparation for the Korean reunification, we are systematically examining the unified judicial system of two Koreas.

In addition, we pursue the globalization of judicature, by way of disseminating Korean judicial system across the world through expanding exchanges with judicial institutions and research organizations in foreign countries. We are also serving to the advancement of legal culture by planning and producing legal education methods for students and the general public in a bid to enhance public understanding and trust in the judicial system.

The Judicial Policy Institute will strive to serve as Korea’s Alexandria Library by taking the lead in conducting research with expertise on pending judicial issues and accumulating related knowledge based on the idea of “creating the new by following the model of the old”. Through this, we will dedicate to laying the foundation for the judiciary to fulfill its constitutionally endowed commitment of protecting the rights of the people and implementing the rule of law, and thus contribute to social integration by resolving social conflicts.

We are sincerely hoping for your great interest and support in the efforts of the Judicial Policy Research Institute to open the future of the judiciary. Thank you.

President PARK, Hyung-nam
